On Saturday, August 12, 2017, the Saint Paul RiverCentre will be filled with community members looking to celebrate exceptional people who uplift, encourage and empower women of color. This year's keynote speaker will be Miss USA 2016, Deshauna Barber. Deshauna was crowned the first Miss USA to currently serve in the United States military. She is a survivor of child sexual abuse and wants to inspire other survivors to fight through the fears of their past. Deshauna has also overcome extreme bullying from a young age but after the recent loss of her mother to cancer, she wants to encourage people to focus on loving yourself and the people around you. Join us as we hear the inspirational story of survival and triumph which led to her eventually becoming a history making national symbol of strength and beauty.
After hearing from our fabulous speaker, we will honor our 2017 Ambassadors of Beauty Award finalists. This is an exceptional group of people who uplift, encourage and empower women while striving to change society’s definition of "beautiful" for women of color. While some honorees foster beauty by improving self-esteem through esthetics and some work to eliminate health disparities among women of color, others promote awareness or motivate. Nonetheless, all of these "Ambassadors of Beauty" give to help women of color understand that beauty begins within, is a lifestyle and is spread by helping others embrace their own God given uniqueness.
